Our office took part in the competition for the reconfiguration of the accesses and the construction of a reception building at the Jean Monnet High School in Brussels. The project site is marked by its built environment and its assertive topography. The development of the high school over the years has generated a functional built environment, though lacking an architectural unity. The new building is located in front of the North entrance gate, at the crossroads of several paths and perspectives. It asserts a discreet architecture, marked by the use of terracotta brick, a timeless and unwearable material with a strong cultural value in Brussels. The building is modular and evolutive and develops on several levels: the auditorium is located on the underground floor whilst the administrative area is on the upper floors. The reception hall, located on the ground floor, allows users to see all the functions of the building in one glance.
