Our office participated in the competition for the renovation, extension and construction of a new building for the DIRPJJSO of Bordeaux. We have chosen to demolish the existing “workshop” and “archives” buildings to allow, on one side, the extension of the HR building on one level, making the ground floor accessible to people with reduced mobility, and on the other, the construction of a new building on two levels, for the DEPAFI service. Each department has its own dedicated entrance, located within the enclosed perimeter. To counterbalance the current very mineral appearance of the site, we decided to cover the facades of the two new constructions with wooden cladding. Only the volume which will accommodate the meeting room of the HR building will be treated differently, to mark the entrance to the building and accentuate its function as the main meeting place. At the rear of the new DEPAFI building, we proposed the creation of a shared garden, where employees would be able to relax and unwind. The contemporary architecture, while respectful of the site through its scale, design and materials, aims to create harmony with the natural environment.
