Our office won the competition for the construction of a new shooting centre in Ars. The project's implantation is a response to the need for a fifty-metre north facing outdoor shooting range, so that shooters are never facing the sun. The project proposes to place the 50m, 25m and 10m shooting ranges side by side, and to wrap the additional premises along their façades. This will enable the communal / leisure facilities to be directly linked to the three shooting ranges, but also to act as a safety screen between the shooting areas and public access from the street. Access to the landscaped car park from the industrial zone is created on the south-east of the building. The building has been designed to be sober, functional and simple in terms of volume, in order to optimise its overall cost and management. The materials used will be appropriate and economical, without neglecting the environmental aspect of the project. The functional objectives of the building have led us to choose a reinforced concrete structure. The external walls are made of light-coloured concrete walls, on which solid or honeycombed concrete slabs are laid, necessary for such large spans. The roofs are terraced, and both the roof and the car park are planted with vegetation. Users' first impression when they enter the site from the main entrance is of a friendly, human-scale building. The first volume, housing the communal facilities, is covered in white metal mesh cladding, giving it a certain lightness while also preserving the privacy and safety of the public inside.
