Until the reunification of Germany in 1990, this building housed the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Germany. As part of the federal heritage, a major restructuring was necessary to adapt it to its future use as a consulate. The reception and entrance hall on the ground floor and the offices on the upper floors are linked by a new central staircase and large circulation areas. The lightness created by a transparent design of the spaces and the use of clear and sober materials reflect the open-mindedness of the new occupants of these once austere premises.
