Our team was entrusted with the construction of Lycée Jean Capelle's E block in Bergerac, France. The overall volume of the new building is simple and optimizes the layout of the premises by trying to preserve as many existing trees as possible. The main facades are oriented North-South. For bio-climatic reasons, the south facade is equipped with a double skin : its horizontal slabs serve as effective sunscreens whilst sheltering the path located underneath, up to the School Administration building. The sun's rays are slowed down by a clever set of vertical wooden blades and printed glass panels that alternate with voids. This double skin is repeated on the north side, to create a filter between the sports field and the classrooms. The printed glass will ensure a perfect balance between our desire to enhance the intimacy of the premises whilst preserving the supply of natural light. The functional aspects of the building dictated its structure : modular, adaptable, progressive and easy to maintain.
